Why did my health insurance plan deny coverage for my medication?

Each insurance policy has different rules about which drugs and procedures will be covered. If you have been denied coverage for a Celgene product, we can explore appeals or other coverage options.

What is a prior authorization?

Your insurance company may need to approve the use of your medication before they will pay for it. This is called a prior authorization. Your Celgene Patient Support® Specialist will help determine whether a prior authorization is needed. We will work with your doctor’s office throughout the prior authorization process.

What is an appeal?

If your insurance company does not approve your medication, your doctor’s office can request a review of this decision. This is called an appeal. Celgene Patient Support® can assist your doctor’s office throughout the appeals process and follow-up on the result.

What if I do not have prescription drug coverage?

There may be programs available to help you if you do not have prescription drug coverage. These may include enrolling in Medicare Part D, a state funded program, or the Celgene free medication program. Please contact Celgene Patient Support®—we will exhaust all possibilities to assist you.

Do I need to complete any forms?

Before you complete any forms, please call Celgene Patient Support® at 1-800-931-8691. We will help you determine which (if any) forms you need to complete.

What types of co-pay assistance are available?

If you cannot pay your co-pay, your Celgene Patient Support® Specialist can refer you to an independent, non-profit organization for financial assistance. Each independent organization has its own rules. Your Celgene Patient Support® Specialist will help you explore all available options. How do I find a pharmacy to fill my Celgene prescription?

Certain Celgene medications are only available through restricted distribution programs. Restricted distribution programs are mandated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) because of the risks associated with certain medications. Only certain pharmacies can fill your prescription for these Celgene medications. Contact Celgene Patient Support® at 1-800-931-8691 to learn more about the Celgene prescription process for restricted distribution products.

Is there anything Celgene Patient Support® Specialists cannot do?

Celgene Patient Support® Specialists cannot:

  • Recommend specific insurance programs or pharmacies—but we can provide lists of these programs and pharmacies based on your needs
  • Recommend a specific foundation for co-pay assistance—but we can provide lists of these foundations based on your needs. We cannot complete the applications required by these foundations for you, but we can guide you through the process
  • Provide monetary co-pay assistance directly to you—but we can connect you with co-pay organizations to provide financial assistance
  • Provide medical advice to you—but we can connect you to Celgene Medical Services
  • Complete paperwork or surveys for restricted distribution programs
